On June 9, our team from Barakaldo travelled to Copenhaguen to participate in the Consortium Meeting of Youcount, a Horizon 2020 project about social inclusion and Youth Citizen Social Science that has lots of synergies with UPLIFT.

Usue Lorenz and Nagore Valle participated in a session about science communication in practice and shared their experience on the participative design of a video about UPLIFT, showcasing the policy co-creation process with youth. They explained how the youth board participants and policy makers in Barakaldo shared, discussed and agreed on the contents of the video and the key messages it should contain.

Barakaldo is one of the 4 European cities where youngsters, researchers and policy makers are working together to explore how the voice of youth can be placed at the centre of housing policies. Along the process, young people have had the opportunity to share their viewpoints with several public decision-makers regarding the public policies carried out by the city council in the field of housing.

The video is focused on understanding what the participation brought to each participant. Researchers, youngsters, and policymakers reflect individually on their own experience. The video can be useful for other policymakers and youngsters to reflect on the value that participating in such a process can bring to them. It has already been presented to other municipal institutions to steer reflection on the value of participative approaches to policymaking.

The video summarizing their experience is now available on Orkestra’s Youtube Channel, but here’s a little peak 😉
